Hey guys Megan Graddy here with this week’s flavors today we’re at Gameday Sports Grill in Greenwood we’ve heard this is a knock out place to come get some food with your family let’s head inside and see if it’s a home run.

“Gameday became a reality because Greenwood is cultivated around sports and so we wanted to bring something to Greenwood that was sports related not only did we want to offer something that had good food with fresh ingredients and fresh to order but with sports also,” said Josh Niles, Owner of Gameday Sports Grill.

“It just really sets itself apart because it’s fresh ingredients, nothing sits in an oven or sits in the back ready to be just brought out,” said Niles.

“Everything here is fresh, we make our own meat patties daily, everything from mashed potatoes, mozzarella sticks, and all of our sauces are handmade,” said Jacob Brown, Kitchen Manager.

“I wanted to provide a loving and kind environment within my town,” said Niles. “Monday is burger Monday it’s $4.99 BYOB basically build your own burger you get a burger and fry a really nice fresh juicy burger.”

And if you are a fan of a little heat you have to try their signature burger.

“We have a burger called the Poppin’ Pappy that is stuffed with cream cheese and jalapenos and topped with pepper jack cheese and more jalapenos,” said Niles. “Tuesday is Taco Tuesday, we have a taco called the Bang Bang Taco which is the hit of the town and actually the hit of south Sebastian County.”

They also offer free meals for kids on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

“Thursday is hungry Thursday you get two New York strips for one amount,” said Niles.

Don’t forget about their killer wing selection, everything is shipped in fresh and tossed in their homemade wing sauce.

“You will not find another restaurant within Sebastian or Crawford county that is designed like this, that wraps their tables it really just sets in the atmosphere,” said Niles.

“Stay locally, this is a great place to come to watch football, basketball, hockey, soccer on tv,” said Brown.

“I believe that Gameday Sports Grill is going to be a part of Greenwood’s DNA,” said Niles.

“We want to serve good quality food to families,” said Brown.

“We’re community driven and we are here for our community,” said Niles.

Flavors: Steffey’s Pizza In Lavaca

[ooyala player_id=”e32b1952e526440e8cfb2c72937dad7e” auto=”true” width=”1920″ height=”1080″ pcode=”c3cHE6YMneRET89rDvIWFLO0U5lj” code=”xubnhmZTE6Do9sUoMXU2pfJW9EpKDpLz”]

Hey guys, Megan Graddy here with this week’s Flavors in Lavaca at Steffey’s Pizza.

That crispy crunch you hear is the crust of a one of a kind, homemade, brick oven pizza that you can only get at Steffey’s Pizza.

Everything made at Steffey’s is made fresh daily… from their secret family recipe dough.

“We have made about 754 pounds of dough this week already,” said LeaAnn Steffey-Ellison.

Grated smoked provolone cheese, savory pizza sauce with a kick.

“We cook out sauce every day for five hours,” said Steffey-Ellison.

And all of the toppings are chopped, sliced, and diced for the perfect pizza toppings.

Their history runs deeper than their stuffed Uncle Romans pizza pie too…

“My parents originally started this in 1963 in Pennsylvania and we moved here in 1980 and opened in 1981 and we have been here ever since, and now it’s just a staple of Lavaca,” said Steffey-Ellison.

Even their decorations have a purpose, from their re-purposed pie plates…

“ I use the old pie plates for picture frames,” Steffey-Ellison.

Their unique light fixtures are great.

To their game room full of pictures featuring, “Where Has Your Steffey’s Shirt Been?

From prep, to oven, to table, the guest at Steffey’s know good pizza when they see it!

And how could we forget about their cheesy chicken spaghetti… the phone wouldn’t let us… it rang off the hook to make sure they got their serving of it!

After all of our hard work in the kitchen, LeaAnn thought we deserved a piece of the pie.

And what better way to finish off a meal at Steffey’s than a s’mores pizza.

For this week’s Flavors, doing it Steffey’s Style, I’m Megan Graddy.

Scott Ditto and his family take pride in their made fresh daily, cut to order business.

Their BBQ style is unique and you would normally have to go down south to enjoy it, but not anymore.

“It’s a Texas-style BBQ with a dry rub seasoning, we try to buy only to top quality meats and products and we cook it very low and very slow,” said Ditto. “All of our meats are cooked fresh every day and every evening,.”

Their indoor smoker is one of a kind and makes for BBQ heaven…

Flavors of Fall: Village Inn

[ooyala code=”RsMWxxNzE6lPlOXcuz1T0b6XQqFHULFJ” player_id=”e32b1952e526440e8cfb2c72937dad7e” width=”640″ height=”360″ auto=”true”]

For this week’s Flavors of Fall Megan Graddy visited the Village Inn at Fayetteville where they are inviting everyone to come celebrate Thanksgiving with them.

Alice Walker is a proud employee of Village Inn and said pie, it their thing.

“Well a typical season November and December around two to three thousand pies,” said Alice.

Village Inn is known for their large variety of flavors and free pie Wednesday!

“Well they are made here in the restaurant, we’ve got so many different variety from our fruitabulous pie, to our cream pie so I think we’ve got a taste for everybody,” said Alice.

But have you heard about their holiday featured pies?

“We have three different pumpkin pies that are available in November, we have our normal pumpkin, our pumpkin crème, and our pumpkin supreme,” said Alice.

And their best seller…

“French Silk the Chocolate French Silk is a really popular pies, it’s also a nationally awarded pie and of course you can’t go wrong with our country apple,” said Alice.

Village Inn makes it easy to pick up your favorite holiday dessert…

“I would recommended that you either call into the restaurant and they will have them ready for you, or you can actually even order them online.. we usually try to keep our pie case as full as possible, we might not be able to guarantee that your favorite pie will be there, if you don’t but, if you want to run in and pick up a pie we will have something for you, absolutely,” said Alice.

Aside from Village Inn’s award winning pies they are offering a special holiday selection to go along with their regular menu options.

“Your choice of grade A turkey or ham steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, bread and butter, dressing and gravy, cranberry relish, and of course pumpkin pie,” said Alice.

“Good quality food, fresh made to order, at a great price, and something for everybody, in a super environment, you can’t ask for more than that,” said Alice.

Village Inn is offering holiday catering meals as well…

“You can order it for 6, 12, 18 or more people; it includes everything traditional that we offer in a single meal,” said Alice.

If you haven’t been to Village Inn, you will soon be a regular, but nobody can top the loyalty one very special customer they have.

“Since they’ve been open and that’s been 20 years, yeah about 20 years.”

Jimmy said he was their very first customer; however he didn’t know he made himself the first customer by walking in before the restaurant had even opened yet!

“The manager came over and said I’m sorry fellas, but we aren’t open yet, and we said we were just hoping to get a cup of coffee, and the manager said well I think I can help with that…we have been friends ever since, and I have been going to eat breakfast there every day since then,” said Jimmy.

Besides their holiday menu, everything else will stay true at Village Inn…

“We’re going to be open from 6am to midnight on Thanksgiving Day, which is our typical opening hours; Village Inn loves our customers,” said Alice. “You are not going to miss out on any type of taste on Thanksgiving, it’s the same taste from our kitchen at it is from grandma,” said Alice.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Flavors: The Popped Popcorn Company, Only At 917 Garrison Ave Fort Smith

[ooyala player_id=”e32b1952e526440e8cfb2c72937dad7e” auto=”true” width=”1920″ height=”1080″ pcode=”c3cHE6YMneRET89rDvIWFLO0U5lj” code=”YwdnNlZDE6K7GFphbpFv4psxC69XIysg”]

Hey guys, Megan Graddy here for this week’s Flavors. Today we are back at our favorite popcorn shop in downtown Fort Smith, The Popped Popcorn Company. Let’s see what new flavors that Jane Powell has for us this time.

“The store was started in the 1970s by the Kistler family, when they started it was originally known as SB Popcorn. We are about to celebrate our 10h anniversary of owning this store. We are open year-round at 917 Garrison Avenue in downtown Fort Smith, our location is Fort Smith is the only location that you can get our popcorn,” said Powell.

And they are known for being fresh and fast!

“Come in order your corn of any of our 31 different flavors and walk out the door with it right then,” said Powell.

Each year they try to introduce a new flavor or flavor combination.

“We have our Peppie’s Pizza and our ranch like we said it’s the most popular combination that we have of our newest flavors,”

Their tins come with a bonus of combining multiple flavors.

“In our one gallon you can mix two flavors if you would like and starting in the two gallons and up we can do any combination of flavors you can choose either one flavor, two flavors, or three flavors,” said Powell.

And they can ship their corn anywhere in the world!

“And if you have a loved one serving overseas in the military or if they just have an APO we are also able to send them a little piece of home even though they aren’t here,” said Powell.

Be sure an ask about their fundraisers too!

“During the summertime and throughout the year we do fundraisers with our schools, churches, leagues, ball teams, you name it. If you are trying to raise money for an event we will work with you and we hear from everyone who has done it that it’s the easiest fundraiser they’ve done,” said Powell.

And the Powell family plans on passing on this family tradition from one generation!

“Just look for our logo and you will know the quality and the love and pride that was put into that popcorn that you are about to eat, and it was made in downtown Fort Smith at 917 Garrison Avenue,” said Powell.

From the Popped Popcorn family to your home this is Megan with 5NEWS for this week’s Flavors.

Hey Guys Megan Graddy here for this week’s Flavors today we are at Rick’s Bakery they have been established since 1980 and they keep pumping out those wonderful sweets for the community, let’s head inside and check things out.

Rick Boone, owner of Rick’s Bakery wears many hats in his business, but one you may not know about is the one he received a degree for.

“I’m an electrical engineer by trade and a donut maker by accident, I love the local, I love the people, I love the area so we chose to stay and do a bakery something I never dreamed of,” said Boone.

And when you get baked goods—like donuts, cakes and cookies from Rick’s.

“They are bringing us into their home into their family and we begin to get to become part of that, we get to be part of the 1st Birthday, 2nd Birthday, the Graduation, getting married.. To be part of that, be part of that experience and that legacy of NWA is huge,” said Boone.

The Rick’s Team has made a soooeewwiet new item to call the hogs with too!

“It’s our Razorback Ring, so it’s something new and exciting that tastes great, it’s got so much better and cream cheese in it and then we are going to cover it with our candy icing and of course it’s going to be all red and white and it’s going to have a hog on it… I know everyone wants to kind of see what’s on the inside of this so I think we should cut it and see what it looks like… And you can see all of the cream cheese layers and fruit we put in there,” said Boone.

Drop into their Street Side Studio before every home game where…

“You can decorate hog products, buy hog products, so you get to build your own tailgating party,” said Boone.

With the holiday season quickly approaching they have a variety of treats; like their spooky good sugar cookies or festive goodies and gifts.

So, what’s next for this cornerstone in our community? It’s not public yet,but here’s a hint from Rick.

“I think people not only here, but even all over the US is going to be excited about what we are going to be able to do pretty soon,” said Boone.

“The local people like their roots they like to know where things come from and they are very supportive of us and that is what has kept us here all these years, we’re not just a bakery we’re the bakery of the community you know we want them to say this is my bakery,” said Boone.

You can come get a lunch special and it comes with a sandwich, salad or soup, chips, pickle, and a slice of cake, how can you beat that? We started with sweet treats, so let’s end it that way! Ever special comes with a dessert of the day, today’s was apple spice cake with cream cheese!

Rick’s Bakery is the Official Bakery of the Razorbacks and they have their drop in tailgating parties at every home game in their street side studio, for more information.

Flavors: Fayetteville Farmers’ Market

[ooyala code=”JwcTM5YzE6tL-bqRs-KRDvylRqzrpmtY” player_id=”e32b1952e526440e8cfb2c72937dad7e” auto=”true” width=”1920″ height=”1080″ pcode=”c3cHE6YMneRET89rDvIWFLO0U5lj”]

The Fayetteville Farmer’s Market has been providing local produce and products to the community since 1973 with a 4 county radius of farmers…

“We want it to be locally grown and there is such a clamor to get into the market it’s nice to have some geographical boundaries; and that was put in place since the founding documents of the market in 1974,” said Mark Cain.

And this market is unique because…

“It’s all grown by the people who are selling the product,” said Mark Cain.

Most vendors depend on this market to make a living…

“People ask us if we have a retail business and we say, ‘this is it this is our business, it’s the Fayetteville Farmer’s Market,'” said Cain.

“Yeah, the amount of work that goes into food production is just astronomical and it’s good to be able to talk directly to the customers and make them understand how much works goes into bringing these things to market,” said Ira White.

Marquita Den Herder has been with the market for 11 years and her food only travels…

“About 16 miles.”

Her favorite part is providing a variety of options from her farm…

“We like offering fresh health produce things that are picked and have been harvested the day before, it feels really good to be able to do that and knowing that we can help promote local healthy foods,” said Den Herder.

Judy Kavan has seen the market flourish…

“I’ve been at this market for 15 years, said Kavan. When I first came it was around three sides of the market and now it’s around all four sides —  on both sides of the market.”

And the crafts are just as remarkable.

“We have these pine needle baskets that the lady makes herself and has been doing that since 1973 for the Farmer’s Market,” said Chuck Rutherford.

The market serenaded all of your senses… Your taste and smell with the cooking demos featuring Ozark Natural Foods and The Farmer’s Table Café… your sight with an array of options on a produce and craft level… touch the products first hand… sounds… from our local bands… and your hearts by receiving something grown and cared for from your local farmers.

“It’s our extended family, we are a family with the vendors here, we are a community of friends and fellow farmers,” said Den Herder.

“Well I think we are kind of a big family, when one of us do well we all do well,” said Kavan.

“It’s just this huge support group to be able to share ideas, if you have trouble they are always there to help you out,” said White.

“Without the community being here and supporting us we wouldn’t be here either,” said Kavan

“Thank you to all of the people who come out and support farmers week after week!” said Ira White

“We love you!” said Mark Cain.

Hey guys Megan Graddy here for this week’s Flavors we visited Bentonville at the Stone Mill Café where they are celebrating 20 years of serving their community and their recent expansion to Bentonville.

“Well where great taste comes naturally is the slogan that has been used at Stone Mill Bread for 20 years,” said Terry Comer, Owner of Stone Mill Café.

But their family tradition has just begun…

“To be able to be connected with the great icon that Stone Mill Bread has become in Fayetteville and extend that into Bentonville has been awesome,” said Comer.

“When they decided to come here we were all excited especially to get some fresh bread,” said Eileen Guillory.

“It’s is baked fresh in our production facility in Springdale and delivered daily, people really appreciate the freshness and the fact that everything we make is wholesome,” said Comer.

“You are having a fresh homemade sandwich,” said Guillory.

“Our chicken salad supreme is our biggest seller,” said Comer.

“I could just get a loaf of bread and a pint of the chicken salad and be good to go,” said Kristi King.

They also serve breakfast so they have menu options for every meal.

“We open up at 7am and our breakfast sandwiches are awesome,” said Comer.

And they also have a convenient drive through.

“It’s strictly call in and then we will prepare it for you; it’s usually ready in about 10 – 15 minutes and ready for pick up,” said Comer.

People can tell the difference, quality is a big thing because this is a family business and we are able to provide all of that as a value and customer service is huge with us” said Comer.

“We have Ozark Trail Bars which are very popular here, blueberry, triple berry, and chocolate chip has been introduced here at this café,” said Comer.

“Delicious I mean, like my favorite… my daughter has a nut allergy so this is great because she can’t have regular bars,” said Comer.

“We feel really privileged and blessed to be able to extend Stone Mill to Bentonville; we really want to continue the tradition of excellence, pride of ownership, and desire to delight customers that goes into every Stone Mill product,” said Comer.

For this week’s Flavors, we were at Neal’s Café in Springdale, they have been serving up great food for 72 years.

This Springdale staple serves a large crowd, but not just to Northwest Arkansas.

Don Neal is a 3rd generation family member who stands behind his family’s food.

“We have people come in from St. Louis, Kansas City, Dallas, Oklahoma City, we serve the best of better foods and I believe in that with all of my heart,” said Don.  “We have the best food anywhere.”

Neal’s daily specials will have you wanting to eat there every day of the week.

“Sunday’s we serve chicken and dressing, we are closed on Mondays, Tuesday was have chicken and dumplings, Wednesday we have a meatloaf, a wonderful meatloaf, it’s my favorite,” said Don.  “Thursdays we have turkey and dressing, Friday a chicken pot pie, and Saturday we do a smothered steak.”

Aside from their daily special they have a core menu that is too good not to try.

Not to mention the chicken fried steak comes from a local butcher and is hand breaded daily.

They also feature their famous fried chicken.

“We fry out chicken in iron skillets and I don’t know anyone who does that around here,” said Don.

Flavors: Fort Smith Farmer’s Market

[ooyala player_id=”e32b1952e526440e8cfb2c72937dad7e” auto=”true” width=”1920″ height=”1080″ pcode=”c3cHE6YMneRET89rDvIWFLO0U5lj” code=”JteGRuZjE6BOC7U9ZsQCov2k2eT1HkUV”]

Hey guys, Megan Graddy here for this week’s Flavors today we are enjoying the fresher and more local side of Fort Smith Farmer’s Market.

Joe Carr, marketing manager, helped establish the Fort Smith Farmer’s Market in April of 2003 because he saw a need in his community.

“I always felt that what a farmers market should be not stuff that has been shipped in from Mexico or California, but fresh local grown produce,” said Carr.

And he said the market has been a benefit to both the community and the farmers.

“A place for people to gather on a Saturday morning to make friends and socialize to buy local grown produce which benefits the farmers,” said Carr.

The variety available speaks volumes, but the distance is right in your backyard.

“All of our growers come from a 90 mile radius, all of our growers come from very different backgrounds.. we have the Asian culture and American cuisine,” said Carr.

Among the stands at the farmers market you will find Grass fed Dexter beef and Microgreens which are…

“They are harvested within 10 days of being grown and they are grown in organic soil and we harvest them that way and grow them that way because they are 40% more nutritious and more tender and have more uses than standard greens would,” said Tom Zinc with Four Seeds Farm.

Honey which is one of the original stands from 2003, gorgeous flowers, unique clothing, and yummy kettle corn.

Tasty cakes.. “I’ve got a lemon cake that is very tart and lemony,” said Pee Santos with Queen P Cupboard.

And community is just a few of the many things you will find while visiting.

If you want to try before you buy there is an option for that as well.

“They have a chance to sample produce and ask any questions they might have,” said Carr.

As summer progresses, fruits and veggie do too.

“Home grown tomatoes, sweet corn, watermelon, peaches, and a lot of those things people like so the best is yet ahead,” said Carr.

So when can you go?

“Right now we are open Tuesday and Saturday from 7am – 12pm year round,” said Carr.

For this week’s Flavors, serving up food from your local farmers, I’m Megan Graddy.

Hey guys Megan Graddy here for this week’s Flavors. We visited a Fort Smith favorite, let’s all go to Catfish Cove.

“We get top of the quality on everything, and it’s what people know and love,” said Kamye Engle.

Engle said they have everything from the unique options you can’t get anywhere else.

“A lot of people come here for our frog legs,” said Engle.

Catfish Cove also has a large variety of classic options on the buffet.

“We also have our US farm raised catfish, boiled shrimp; we have tons of side items to choose from; it’s a lot of home cooking,” said Engle.

Catfish Cove has a full spread so there is something for everyone.

“To be a seafood place we have excellent ribs and the same thing with our chicken; and we have french-fries like the kids love and mashed potatoes and gravy,” said Engle.

Trying to be healthier, they have plenty of options for you as well.

“From our smoked fish, to our baked Cajun fish and then we have a full salad bar selection so there is kind of something for everyone,” said Engle.

Catfish Cove is known for its fun jingle too!

“You don’t need a license to fish at Catfish Cove, you don’t need a boat and you don’t even need a pole, there are lines at the food buffet so it’s fun to troll, let’s all go to Catfish Cove!”

And families have chosen this buffet for years.

“We’ve got grandparents who are bringing in their sons and the sons are bringing in their sons now you know, it’s homey,” said Engle.

People coming back are their biggest compliment.

“It holds us to a high standard people come in here and it’s known for having the best… the best fish the best quality,” said Engle.

One of their customers drives from Tulsa, OK!

“Every time I’m in Fort Smith I always come to Catfish Cove,” said Jack Grazier.

And when you go to Catfish Cove…

“Come hungry,” said Engle.

“Sometime I leave too full,” said Grazier.

And we can’t forget about their tasty desserts…

“Peach cobbler, cherry cobbler and we make those from scratch as well chocolate cake and cinnamon rolls, and you can get all of that for one price,” said Engle.

For this week’s Flavors, I’m Megan Graddy.
